Welcome to Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico, named after the jubilant cry of Ponce de Leon; "Que puerto rico!" - What a rich port". Puerto Rico was an important strategic asset and remained firmly in Spanish control until it came into possession of the United States after the Spanish-American war.

San Juan is the main point of entry and is the lifeblood of the island. You can spend your entire trip in San Juan and be easily satisfied that you saw all there is to see in Puerto Rico. That's not because that's all there is, it's more a statement of fact that there is just so much to see in San Juan, that it's hard to believe that there's more - but there is.

A trip "Out on the Island" will reinforce that in short order.
